Dr Kaye said: “The community deserves to know the truth about the Department of Education's plans for the school.

"The Department is subjecting the school to the death by a thousand cuts, as teachers are transferred out and the curriculum is slashed.

“This is no way to treat the students and teachers of this fine school.

“Officially the government says it wants the school to remain open. Yet their actions seem to be designed to drive new parents from the school.

“It is hard to escape the conclusion that their real agenda is to close the school, sell off the land and add to the state’s budget surplus.

"The uncertainty is bad news for the students and teachers at Macquarie Boys. It leaves the school with limited ability to plan and time wasted on speculation.

"The NSW Government needs to ‘fess up and tell the truth, so that it can start an honest conversation with the school community.

"Macquarie Boys High School sits amidst some of the fastest growing population centres in Sydney.

“The Department should be working with the local community and teachers to find a solution that works for the students and the teachers,” Dr Kaye said.

On Wednesday 15th August Greens MP and Education spokesperson John Kaye spoke at a public meeting organised by teachers, parents and members of the community in support of Macquarie Boys High School.

More than 1000 people attended the meeting, which was held at a scouts hall in North Parramatta. At the meeting John urged the NSW Government to come clean about its plans for the school. The Department of Education had recently announced significant cuts to teaching levels and the curriculum at the school.
